Manchester United renew interest in Real Madrid midfielder

Manchester United’s Midfield Search
Manchester United are reportedly making renewed efforts to secure the services of Real Madrid midfielder Aurélien Tchouaméni. The French international is a target for United as they look to reinforce their midfield options. This renewed interest comes after previous attempts to sign the player were unsuccessful.
Real Madrid are said to be open to the possibility of selling the 26-year-old defensive midfielder to Manchester United. This development marks a shift, as earlier in the summer transfer window and during the previous winter, Tchouaméni was expected to remain with the Spanish club, with reports even suggesting he was close to extending his contract.
The pursuit of a specialist defensive midfielder is a priority for Manchester United, particularly following the departure of Casemiro to Inter Miami. Tchouaméni‘s profile is believed to align with United‘s requirements for a young player capable of anchoring the midfield and providing balance to the team. Unlike recent arrivals André Santos and Youri Tielemans, who are more attack-oriented, Tchouaméni is described as a natural defensive midfielder.
Other Midfield Targets and Defensive Interests
While Tchouaméni remains a key target, Manchester United are also considering other options to bolster their midfield. These include AS Roma and France midfielder Manu Kone, who is 25 years old, and Brighton‘s 22-year-old Cameroon international Carlos Baleba. Additionally, Bournemouth‘s 27-year-old United States midfielder Tyler Adams, valued at approximately £35m, is another player reportedly being considered by Michael Carrick‘s side.
Beyond midfield, several other transfer movements are being discussed across various clubs. Arsenal is reportedly targeting defenders John Stones, 32, formerly of Manchester City, and Aston Villa‘s 28-year-old Ezri Konsa. These interests arise after an injury to France defender William Saliba, 25. Chelsea are considered favourites to sign 18-year-old Bosnia-Herzegovina attacking midfielder Kerim Alajbegovic from Bayer Leverkusen. Bayer Leverkusen is also in discussions with Crystal Palace regarding the sale of 28-year-old French centre-back Axel Disasi.
Chelsea has also reportedly reached an agreement to sign 15-year-old American winger Benji Flowers from Major League Soccer side FC Dallas, with the move expected to be completed when he turns 18. In other defensive news, Liverpool and England Under-20 defender Amara Nallo, 19, is set to join Finnish club HJK Helsinki on a season-long loan.
Movements in Attack and Other Club Interests
In the attacking department, Celtic and Japan striker Daizen Maeda, 28, is expected to undergo a medical examination on Friday to finalize his £10m transfer to Ipswich Town. Meanwhile, Leeds United‘s English winger Jack Harrison, 29, is reportedly nearing a move to MLS side New England Revolution.
Several clubs are also in the race to sign 19-year-old Ivory Coast winger Yan Diomande from RB Leipzig. RB Leipzig previously turned down a £69m bid from Liverpool for the player. Everton has shown interest in Celtic‘s Alistair Johnston, 27, who impressed for Canada at the World Cup and is seen as a suitable right-back replacement following the departure of Republic of Ireland defender Seamus Coleman.
Aston Villa is reportedly interested in acquiring 25-year-old Everton and England midfielder James Garner this summer. Manchester City boss Enzo Maresca remains keen on signing 25-year-old Argentina midfielder Enzo Fernandez and 23-year-old France full-back Malo Gusto from his former club Chelsea. Despite José Mourinho reportedly counting on Tchouaméni for the 2026-2027 season, Manchester United continues its efforts to sign the midfielder.
